FRANKFORT, Ky. – A week after admitting to state ethics violations, the former head of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife has been charged with driving under the influence.

Kentucky State Police confirmed Friday that Jonathan Gassett was arrested around 8:40 p.m. Thursday after a trooper pulled him over on Interstate 64 near Midway. Police said the arresting officer observed some suspicious driving.

He was lodged in the Woodford County Detention Center on Friday.

Gassett was fined $7,500 in a settlement with the Executive Branch Ethics Commission last week. He admitted to nine violations, which included directing state workers to perform personal chores on state time.

The commission charged that he had employees pump out his flooded basement, deliver building materials to his home and repair a dent in his personal canoe. Gassett also admitted to using his high-ranking position to obtain state police passes to the Kentucky Derby in 2011 and 2012.

Gassett resigned as commissioner last September to take a job with the Wildlife Management Institute.
