TEN HUNTERS CHARGED WITH ILLEGAL DOVE BAITING IN UNION COUNTY
ANDERSONVILLE---TWRA Officers have charged ten individuals for hunting doves in a baited area near Andersonville in Union Co.
Wildlife Officer Rick Roberts reports that while he and other Officers were inspecting dove hunters in a corn field off of Albright Rd. on Labor Day morning, they located an area that had been recently tilled and sown with oats. Officer Roberts stated, “The oats that had been sown a few weeks ago had sprouted, but the field had also been top-sown with fresh seed within the past few days. There was also cracked-corn that had been scattered in the area.” The Officers located a bag of cracked corn in the bed of a pickup truck.
Officers also charged two of the hunters for hunting migratory birds with shotguns capable of holding more than three shells, which is a violation of Federal Law.
All firearms have been seized as evidence and the hunters have been cited into Union Co. General Sessions Court.
State and Federal Law prohibits the taking of migratory game birds by the aid of baiting, or on or over any baited area. The law further states when bait has been placed to attract wildlife, the area shall remain a baited area for 10 days following complete removal of all such corn, wheat, or other grain, salt, or other feed.
